Judgment

How many times a day do we judge somebody? I know I am guilty of this sin! The Bible tells us not to judge people. Look at Matthew 7:1-5:

1″Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3″Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

I had read these verses many times before, but a couple of weeks ago it really hit me what they meant. If I am gossiping and judging somebody, eventually it will come back around and I will get judged the same way. For example, if I am talking about how a girl I know is such a jerk, and she is always talking bad about people, and acting like she’s better than everybody, I’m probably going to get judged by her the same way. Then you can move on and look at verse 5, we are hypocrites! By saying what I said above, I am acting just like her! God specifically commands us to fix yourself before you try fix somebody else. You aren’t helping anybody by talking bad about this person, and you are sinning.

So, are you judgmental? Do you look at other peoples issues before you look at your own? Refocus, take a look at your own life and let God shape you into the man or woman He wants you to be!
